Stempra newsletter - New Year 2010

From the Chair
Katrina Nevin-Ridley looks back at the highs and lows of the last year, and what a busy year it has been. With global changes afoot for 2010, Stempra is planning even bigger and better things to keep you trained and entertained (with perhaps a few drinks drained as well).

The dawn of another industry
First proposed as the Association of Scientific Societies Public Relations Officers (yes, that really is ASSPRO for short), Stempra started as a scribble on a napkin and ended up a thriving pinnacle of success. Three Stempra committee members track its history from conception, and look forward to a brand new constitution.

Event Reports:

The UK's response to swine flu - pandemic or hamdemic
Swine flu still hasn't caused its predicted astronomical death toll, and we may already be looking forward to next new global health threat, but the march of public panic is never over. Stempra members found out how high Department of Health and Science Media Centre jump when mass hysteria comes knocking at their door.

My worst day in the office
We've all made mistakes under pressure, and nobody likes to admit it: that's what I learned at this event. But once one wary PR officer starts the ball rolling, all manner of stories come tumbling from the closet, every one a lesson learned and problem shared.

Interview:

Romana Canneti, media lawyer
Romana Canneti is an experienced media lawyer, advising various outlets on pre-publication advice, handling of legal and issues arising post publication. After she spoke at a Stempra event in November, Ruth Francis quizzed her on her background, the Justice Secretary and the British Chiropractic Association.
