AAAS Annual Meeting The American Association for the Advancement of Science annual meeting for 2008 will take place in Boston, Massachusetts. The event will comprise symposia, plenary lectures, topical lectures, seminars/special sessions, career workshops, exhibitor workshops, posters, business meetings, student opportunities and family science days. Note for press officers: most UK newspapers and broadcast outlets send correspondents to the conference so there will be a lot of science stories from the conference during this period.
UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology Annual Conference UKRC will welcome SET journalists and PR professionals from the private and public sector along with representatives from science, engineering and technology organisations to discuss the main question of the day, "How does the media shape cultural stereotypes of women scientists and engineers and what can be done to address this?"
Physiology of an Athlete event, University of Essex, Colchester This event has been sponsored by The Physiological Society and will be an open day for local schools and the general public. The aim is to educate, promote and excite families about physical activity and the effects it has on the body, i.e. how the body works (physiology) and enhance learning for A-level and GCSE in both Science and Physical Education. Lecture Series: Royal Geographical Society launches 21st Century Challenges series: A new programme of public engagement events bridging science and social science have been launched by the Royal Geographical Society. The first debate on the future of Africa involved Kofi Annan and Bob Geldof, chaired by DFID chief scientist Gordon Conway. The next discussion on the future of low carbon energy is with BP’s former head Lord Browne and Malcolm Wicks MP.
