From Climate Change to Obesity, the Government and Scientific Advice
At the end of last year Dave King stood down as the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor. Throughout his seven years in the post he tackled such high profile issues as obesity, flu pandemics, nuclear power and even TB in badgers. He is also famous for saying in 2004 that climate change was a far greater threat to the world than international terrorism, and stepping down from his job in a storm of publicity by suggesting a new debate on GM crops is needed.
Michael Evans, who until February this year was the Private Secretary to the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor, spent over five years working with Dave King. Working in this high profile environment on some of the most topical and hotly debated areas in science and health has given him great insight into the way science and politics work together and in communicating science to a wider audience. Michael will speak about these experiences and working at the centre of government.
